Public health slates new session of course on dementia

If you could reduce your risk of developing dementia by up 70 percent by simply adapting your lifestyle, would you do it? Greene County public health is here to help you learn about changes you can make today to shore up your brain fitness now and into the future with their 10-week dementia prevention courses. The next session is scheduled to begin June 4.

Unlocking Brain Fitness: Keys to Dementia Prevention brings experts in diet, exercise, sleep, chronic diseases, medications, water intake, stress, hearing and socialization together to help attendees learn ways to reduce their dementia risk.

Public health is working in a partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines to bring the education and resources for the Keys course to all area residents. “There is no cure for dementia,” explained public health director Becky Wolf. “However, there are things we can do now, positive lifestyle changes, that help you take control and manage that risk. The time and effort our attendees put in today is banking for better brain health in the future.”

The second 2024 Unlocking Brain Fitness: Keys to Dementia Prevention course will be held in the Greene County Medical Center Education Center on Tuesdays, from 1 to 3 pm, June 4 through Aug. 6. Registration takes only a few minutes and can be done by calling Greene County public health at 515-386-3228.
